The Synopsis

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is more than just a 3D modelling software, but it’s new collaborative process in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry supported with digital modelling technology. With the applications of 3D to 7D BIM, it can provide a unified platform for all stakeholders in the building industry to work coherently, share information, and communicate with a centralised database.

The building industry generates as much as 30% waste, and construction waste is expected to reach 2.2 billion tons annually worldwide by 2025. With the increase of project complexity and demands nowadays, architects should be equipped with BIM to remain competitive and to deliver quality services. BIM can provide better design outcomes through collaboration, enhanced building performances, faster project delivery, reduced construction waste, and sustainable development.

This talk will focus on the benefits and applications of BIM for architectural practice in Malaysia. It aims to provide a holistic understanding of BIM as a collaborative process and the various BIM solutions available in the practice. It will also include the practical implementations of BIM in building projects with reference to BIM execution plans, case studies and standards so that architects can use BIM effectively throughout different project phases.
