Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Center

Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Center by PDC Design Group Sdn Bhd

The aquatic center was designed in 2004. With the coming of the SUKMA in 2016, the project was quickly awarded as Deign & Build contract in 2014. The construction of the complex started in 2014 and was completed ahead of schedule in January 2016 and within budget. The Aquatic Centre was successfully used for the SUKMA aquatic games in 2016.

The aquatic center was envisaged to be a world class center with the aim of attracting and hosting international competitions and training, and through its children leisure pool, as a family activity generator complementing the rest of the complex.

The main design concepts were passive solar design with cross ventilation to minimise mechanical means of cooling, with a nautical aesthetic. Circular design elements were consistently used throughout the building: on the plans, sections, walls and ceiling. Disabled accessibility was an important design consideration, with the main entrance ramp as design feature of the main façade.

This CPD will examine the roles and responsibilities of the Architect under the Housing Development Act (Act 118 Peninsular Malaysia 2007) and the Sarawak Housing Ordinance (1993) and related regulations. It will cover an overview of the two sets of laws in force in West Malaysia and Sarawak and point out the major differences. A brief outline of the certification process under the housing acts and ordinances and the management of quality in relation to this certification is reviewed. Managing common defects and complaint is also considered.
