Synopsis

Silicone contribution to Sustainable Architecture

Abstract:

Stricter energy codes. Creative designs for aesthetically striking structures. A push to be more “green”’ in every aspect of building design and construction. These simultaneous trends in the building industry can be difficult to juggle. This presentation shall discuss about the role of silicone sealant, the technology and innovation that contributes to address these trends and assist architects and building component designers find the balance they seek. Attendees will gain a better understanding on following:

  • The possibilities and application of silicone materials both internally and externally on a structure to achieve sustainability
  • The reason(s) for sealant failures and stain.
  • New technology and innovation in sealant solutions to address tomorrow’s architectural needs.

 

Speakers’ Biography

Mr. Jayrold Bautista 

Jayrold is the Senior Application Engineer and Technical Specialist for High Performance Building Market of Dow Corning Singapore, responsible for Asean market. He provides technical expertise to owners, developers, architects, façade consultants and façade contractors regarding silicone technology and its applications in the industry.

Prior to joining Dow Corning, Jayrold was a project façade designer for a major façade consultancy firm and had been involved in projects in various countries including Philippines, China, India, Korea and Azerbaijan. He is a civil engineer by profession and holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the Philippines – Diliman from the Philippines.

This CPD will examine the roles and responsibilities of the Architect under the Housing Development Act (Act 118 Peninsular Malaysia 2007) and the Sarawak Housing Ordinance (1993) and related regulations. It will cover an overview of the two sets of laws in force in West Malaysia and Sarawak and point out the major differences. A brief outline of the certification process under the housing acts and ordinances and the management of quality in relation to this certification is reviewed. Managing common defects and complaint is also considered.
