Hanis Abdul Razak (NWKA Architects)

Hanis Abdul Razak’s graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2012. His final year project “CoCA KL-Contigent space for continent people” earned him the title – Gold Winner of Nippon Paint Young Designer Award 2012 (Architecture Category). As the Head of Design Studio at NWKA Architects, Hanis takes keen interest in modern and modest architecture which is widely adhered through his works. He believes that architecture quality is not merely defined by the end product but a process that can change and inspire people.

Ar. Nurina Matnor (Arkitek Nurina Matnor)

Arkitek Nurina Matnor grew from a small practice of 4 in 2010, to their present studio of 14. They have a variety of work in both the public and private sector; from residential to conservation, religious and institutional and much in between. They see themselves as being able to provide good design solutions within a modest budget; along the vein of ‘less can be more’. Nurina feels that Sarawak is undergoing a transformation and that architects has a responsibility to educate the youth through her projects.

Teh Joo Heng, Singapore (Teh Joo Heng Architects)

Teh Joo Heng Architects – established in April 2000 by Teh Joo Heng, is a design oriented firm that focuses on creating imaginative and innovative design solutions to conventional design problems, thereby bringing a fresh perspective to all design projects commissioned. The design philosophy demands thorough inquiry into design issues in a rigorous search for innovative design solutions. The design process respects the traditional built environment and technological possibilities. The design solution is expressed in strong and clear architectural forms and space without predetermined stylist preferences to meet the aspirations of the client, while adding to the body of knowledge in architecture and the built environment. Teh himself as the Principal of the firm is a hands-on architect as well equipped with extensive professional and academic experience.

This CPD will examine the roles and responsibilities of the Architect under the Housing Development Act (Act 118 Peninsular Malaysia 2007) and the Sarawak Housing Ordinance (1993) and related regulations. It will cover an overview of the two sets of laws in force in West Malaysia and Sarawak and point out the major differences. A brief outline of the certification process under the housing acts and ordinances and the management of quality in relation to this certification is reviewed. Managing common defects and complaint is also considered.
