UCSI – Assistant Professor Teoh Chee Keong
Since 2007, the School of Architecture and Built Environment at UCSI University has incorporated the ideas of collaborative learning and social engagement into the curriculum. Studio projects and assignments were designed with a purpose to engage students and lecturers, individually and collectively, to work with NGOs, communities, academicians and architects to identify environmental and cultural issues via a process of mapping, observing, design. The studies would result in a form of design/planning proposal, exhibition, ‘live build’ projects or other outcomes which could benefit the society. The school has been involved in community projects, such as Pudu Community Art Festival, Hulu Langat Art Carnival, Kuala Sepetang ‘Kaktao 46’ Community Library, PublikArt and currently Sungai Buloh Story Museum and etc. In this talk, Teoh will be sharing his experience of social engagements, and will discuss the vision and challenges of this pedagogy in architectural education.
