Speakers’ Biography

Irene Teo currently holds the position of Manager, Product and Technical from Lafarge Drymix Sdn Bhd. She is responsible for technical services for Lafarge Drymix range of products. She was graduated from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) with Bachelor Degree (Honours) in Chemical Engineering and started her career since 2010, involved in project engineering and building construction industry. In her career at Lafarge Drymix, she has been responsible for technical related matters, including product development and provides technical advisory services across the entire value chain from architect, consultant to developer firms.

In 2017, we have understood Malaysia’s construction trend and how evolution of dry-mix products can be an effective building materials to meet today’s building stringent requirement, particularly in preventing the greatest nightmares for all, such as wall cracks, hollowness, powdery surface, paint peel off, and efflorescence.

This year, we shall focus to introduce the primary concept to help architects design and realizing this perfect wall into practical field. The audience is expecting to have a deeper understanding in each designed material behavior, its physical touch and feel, including but not limited to plastering, rendering and skim coating. Missed out the previous session? Don’t worry, a short recap would as well be covered, including the common best practices for perfect wall construction.

This CPD will examine the roles and responsibilities of the Architect under the Housing Development Act (Act 118 Peninsular Malaysia 2007) and the Sarawak Housing Ordinance (1993) and related regulations. It will cover an overview of the two sets of laws in force in West Malaysia and Sarawak and point out the major differences. A brief outline of the certification process under the housing acts and ordinances and the management of quality in relation to this certification is reviewed. Managing common defects and complaint is also considered.
