Signing of Drawings Prepared By Others

It has come to our knowledge that there are cases of Professional Architect(s) signing Building Plans prepared by independent unregistered draughtsman/technicians being submitted to Statutory Authorities/Agencies for their approval consideration.

We inform that this is in direct infringement of PAM Code of Professional Conduct: Principle One – Faithful Discharge of Responsibilities item (6) which stated that “A member shall not certify, affix or put his signature to drawings, plans or specification which are not prepared by him or by members of his staff under his supervision for the purpose of obtaining the approval from any statutory authority.”

PAMSC view this as a very serious offence being committed by the Professional Architect(s). We seek your cooperation to stop this unhealthy practices with immediate effect. We will not hesitate to report them to our PAM(KL), Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia as well as taking necessary actions against them if such offence continue to be committed here forth.

Yours faithfully,

Ar. Stephen Liew Ngian Chin
PAMSC Chairman

This CPD will examine the roles and responsibilities of the Architect under the Housing Development Act (Act 118 Peninsular Malaysia 2007) and the Sarawak Housing Ordinance (1993) and related regulations. It will cover an overview of the two sets of laws in force in West Malaysia and Sarawak and point out the major differences. A brief outline of the certification process under the housing acts and ordinances and the management of quality in relation to this certification is reviewed. Managing common defects and complaint is also considered.
