Inspection of buildings is becoming a necessity for newly handed over properties as well as for old buildings for maintenance purposes. With rising consumer expectations on quality workmanship, and for continuous proper maintenance & management of properties there is a demand for and in need of independent inspections to help look out for building defects that – IF go unreported or undetected – may bring financial and social impacts to the owners and communities at large. Know about building defects, learn how to identify them with the right remedies. For more info on building defects visit: http://www.architectcentre.com.my

The Great Fire of Kuching started at 1am on 20th January 1884 (Sunday), from a shop-house at the corner of Carpenter and China Street. After the fire subsided (helped by torrential rain) at 6am, 196 shop-houses were completely destroyed while 6 were partially destroyed. Following this disaster, it was Rajah Charles Brooke’s order: “In future, all wooden shop-houses shall be built of bricks”, that shaped the charming streetscape of Old Kuching which we have inherited.
